6 Signs Your Kitchen is Overdue for New Cabinets

Our kitchens are usually our most-loved rooms. We spend a great deal of time in them, cooking, talking, cleaning, and solving all the world’s problems. We spend so much time in them, in fact, we rarely notice when they are starting to look worn down. Whether you are just looking to spruce up your kitchen cabinets or you are looking to remodel your entire kitchen, there are some signs that you need to replace your old kitchen cabinets with new ones.

6 Signs You Need New Kitchen Cabinets

Sometimes you can get away with just painting or staining your cabinets, but sometimes they just need to be replaced.

They Are falling Apart

If your kitchen cabinets are losing doors, knobs, shelving, or even if they are pulling away from the wall, you should rip them out and replace them. Sometimes they are made with cheap materials and can’t be expected to last.

Flimsy, cheap material shouldn’t be resurfaced or painted. It won’t make them any stronger and putting on a new door or drawer front might actually prove to be too heavy for it.

They Look Horrible

Cracks, fingerprint stains, chipped paint, broken corners, and just faded and tired looking. These things happen after time and lots of use. Once the doors have popped their hinges and stripped the wood, you don’t want to patch them.

Often, we do a makeshift job of repairing the smaller damages just to find one day they look like grandma’s quilt. It’s time to yank them out and replace them with something beautiful.

There is an Odor

Odors can seep into the wood and it can be almost impossible to get them out. This can come from mold and mildew, spilled foods that never got completely cleaned and, even from pets or animals from the outside making a nest in the wall.

Mold is one of the worse and it lingers on everything you put in the cabinet. It’s like it never leaves after that, clinging to your tee-towels, plastic and everything else porous that will absorb the smell.

They Are Metal

Well, they were lovely when you got them but now what? You can’t cover them and they tend to really show the dings, dents, and scratches. These once-chic cabinets are now just dull and tired. There isn’t much you can do to change them, once you no longer like them.

You Are Changing the Layout

Taking out a wall, expanding the porch into a laundry room, adding a deck off the west wall. Changing the layout of your kitchen means you are likely going to have to rip the cabinets out, anyhow.

If you are customizing your kitchen, you will want custom-made cabinets, as well. They are well worth the price as they will last much longer. Often standard cabinets won’t fit the way you want them to. You don’t want to rebuild your kitchen around cheap kitchen cabinets.

New Appliances

Replacing your old appliances, if they are really old, may require a few adjustments anyhow. Older appliances are not always the same size. Besides, you don’t want to put in brand new appliances next to your tired old cabinets.

Custom Cabinets

Having your kitchen cabinets custom-made will make your kitchen look and function so much better. You get what you want and they will fit your kitchen perfectly.

They are always of much better quality and you can rest assured they will last for many years. When you need to replace your kitchen cabinets, go custom-made.
